I’m influenced by what I see and touch in those rare moments when I’m not buried in my phone or work. In these first years of making I found this influence becomes clearer when I’m running on the fells and trails of Northwest England. Out there I can allow my breath to lead me and the textures under my feet impact me. Most of the work is thrown with a sanded body to mirror the Millstone Grit found in the Pennines of Northern England whilst the soft white Dolomite satin glaze thinly breaking to give the sand space to rise through lips and edges - emulates the flat light and shrouds of mist that surround me whilst out on the moors. Occasionally some pieces will have a glassy Azure blue break or lip detail to represent that fleeting glimpse of clear sky. As the seasons change the grass burns to amber, the bracken dies to a deeper reddish earth & the colours and textures of what I produce will follow these seasonal shifts.

I’m drawn towards simple shapes and useable forms that feel good in my hands and look strong when combined with foods and foliage. I’m sure this will all change, but for now this is where I’m at. I hope you all like it.
